Michael McDonald, with or without the Doobie Bros, is one of my favorite songwriters. I heard this song after not hearing or thinking about it for years and I decided to cover it. I didn't intentionally change it to a triple meter, when I sat down at the piano it just came out that way. I don't usually write down the background vocals but they are the backbone of this song.
